ISLAMABAD: Portugal and Pakistan are witnessing growing bilateral engagement, with increasing cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges, Portuguese Ambassador Paulo Guedes Domingues said at celebrations marking the Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities 2026 in Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain attended as chief guest. The gathering also included Ministers Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah and Barrister Aqeel Malik, alongside Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi and members of the diplomatic community.
Ambassador Domingues said bilateral relations were entering a particularly positive phase, marked by regular engagement and a shared commitment to expanding cooperation.
Highlighting growing people-to-people ties, he noted that the Pakistani community in Portugal had grown to nearly 50,000 residents, describing it as a “living bridge” between the two nations and an important contributor to Portuguese society.
The ambassador also paid tribute to renowned Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, whose legacy, he said, reflects Portugal’s spirit of openness, discovery and dialogue among cultures
The celebration highlighted the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Portugal .
