On International Day of the Girl Child, UNICEF appointed veteran actor Saba Qamar as its first National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan. Known for her roles in Kamli and Hindi Medium, Qamar will leverage her platform to address critical issues like child marriage, education, mental health, and gender equality.
UNICEF has been championing children’s rights in Pakistan since 1948, with the country among the first to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
Through ambassadors from diverse fields like arts, sports, and culture, UNICEF advocates for improved living conditions and inspires action to empower children, youth, and families worldwide.
UNICEF’s key priorities include ensuring children’s survival with healthcare, immunization, and nutrition, providing quality education, protecting them from violence, and promoting safe environments with clean water and sanitation.
UNICEF’s Pakistan Representative, Abdullah Fadil, praised Qamar as a bold advocate for women’s and girls’ rights. With Pakistan recording 19 million child brides, Qamar’s mission will focus on raising awareness and driving meaningful change to protect future generations. Qamar aims to inspire action through her involvement, sharing her experiences working with children and hinting at more stories to come.
