Islamabad – 28 October 2024: The Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko, met with the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, resulting in a significant advancement in the relationship between the two countries. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Federation Council of Russia and the Senate of Pakistan, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to furthering bilateral cooperation and dialogue.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the traditionally friendly relations shared by Russia and Pakistan, which are marked by an active political dialogue at the highest levels and robust inter-parliamentary relations. Madam Speaker Valentina Matvienko praised Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for his pivotal role in bolstering
bilateral ties, especially his contributions within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). She acknowledged his efforts during his tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan and as Chairman of the Russia-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group
