Imran Khan’s sisters granted bail amid PTI crackdown

Islamabad – Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of PTI chairman Imran Khan, were granted bail by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad following their recent arrest during PTI-led protests. The court approved their release on surety bonds of Rs 20,000 each after the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to support the charges.

Their arrest came amid an intensified crackdown on PTI leaders and supporters as the party continues its campaign for judicial independence and the release of Imran Khan, who remains in prison. PTI leaders argue that the legal actions against the Khan family are politically motivated, designed to suppress dissent and weaken the party ahead of the upcoming elections.

While the bail decision offers temporary relief, it highlights the weaknesses in the prosecution’s case, adding to concerns about the state’s use of anti-terrorism laws to target political opponents. Human rights activists have criticized these tactics, urging the government to avoid weaponizing the legal system.

Imran Khan’s sisters’ release adds momentum to PTI’s narrative that it is being unfairly targeted by the state. However, the broader political crisis remains unresolved as the party faces mounting pressure and shrinking space to operate. With Imran Khan still behind bars, the PTI’s ability to sustain its movement will be tested in the coming weeks. As both sides brace for political and legal battles, Pakistan’s political landscape remains deeply polarized, with critical implications for the country’s democratic future.
