Director General Americas Division receives Cuban Ambassador Damián at MoFA
Islamabad – 15 July 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : The experienced diplomat Batool Kazim, recently appointed Director General of the Americas Division, received the Cuban Ambassador, Damián Cordero Torres, on a courtesy visit. The Director-General was accompanied by Syedah Marriyah Ali, Director for Canada and Latin America, and Deputy Director Aaliya Hassan.
The Cuban Ambassador congratulated the diplomat on her new post, wishing her and her team every success. He took the opportunity to thank Pakistan for its support of Cuba in its call for an end to the US blockade and for its condemnation of the blockade in multilateral forums such as the United Nations General Assembly itself, says press note.
He also updated the Director-General on the brutal energy blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba and the hardships faced by the population on a daily basis as a result of President Trump’s executive orders, as well as the recent sanctions announced against Cuban institutions. All of the above is accompanied by the threat of military aggression as part of the narrative against Cuba.
The senior diplomat expressed her gratitude for the information provided and the text handed over by the Cuban Ambassador regarding Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez’s recent address to the United Nations General Assembly. She also reaffirmed that Pakistan’s support for Cuba on this issue forms part of the sincere bilateral relationship that has been forged based on respect and solidarity between the two countries.
At the end of the visit, the diplomat was briefed on the process for awarding scholarships to Pakistani students as part of the agreements reached during the rounds of bilateral political consultations between the two countries.
