Pakistan Hosts 23rd SCO Summit

The 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit is set to be held in Islamabad on October 15-16. It is perceived as an important step towards the development of regional cooperation, trade, investment, and the cultural, social relations of countries participating in the organization.

The Shanghai cooperation organization is an intergovernmental organization, originally founded as Shanghai Five in 1996 and later in the year 2001 included member Uzbekistan. After being an observer from 2015 up to 2017, Pakistan joined as a full member in 2017 after which many observers saw the relevance of the organization progressing as a club of nations with varying political interests.

The SCO members representing nearly 40 % of the world’s population and contributing 32% of global GDP, opening doors of economic and regional cooperation

The summit will focus on issues like anti-terrorism, economic relationships, and cultural mutual connection ensuring receptive partners’ engagement into the development initiative.

Diplomatic experts emphasize that this high level meeting of the countries will not only take care of the needs of the region rather it will also help in enhancing the stature of Pakistan in the global arena.
