Pakistan Launches Digital Identity Card

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced Pakistan’s first ‘Dematerialised Digital Identity Card’, a groundbreaking step toward a fully digital identification system. This innovative digital ID allows citizens to store and access their identity on smartphones via the Pak ID mobile application, eliminating the need for physical ID cards.

The pilot phase for this initiative is set to launch on August 14, 2025, coinciding with NADRA’s silver jubilee celebrations. This transformation is expected to revolutionize access to government services, enhancing efficiency and convenience for millions of Pakistanis. By shifting towards a secure, digital-first identification system, Pakistan is aligning itself with global technological advancements in identity management.

This digital ID initiative will play a crucial role in streamlining public services, ensuring secure identity verification, and facilitating digital transactions. The move is also a significant step toward a paperless governance model, reducing reliance on physical documentation and enhancing data security.
