ISLAMABAD: Calling for greater awareness, early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer, H.E. Ms. Rita Dhital, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, joined Maroof International Hospital (MIH) in launching a three-month Breast Cancer and Mental Health Awareness Campaign, alongside a Cancer Support Group to promote patient well-being and emotional support.

Running from 1 October to 31 December 2026, the campaign is being conducted under the Maroof Community Support Program, with a focus on women’s health, preventive healthcare, early detection and the psychological well-being of patients and their families.
Addressing the awareness session as Chief Guest, Ambassador Rita Dhital appreciated MIH’s efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and encouraged greater attention to preventive healthcare. She emphasized the importance of timely screening, informed health choices and collective efforts to ensure that women have access to awareness and appropriate medical care.

Announcing the Cancer Support Group Project, Mr. Haroon Naseer, CEO of Maroof International Hospital, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to strengthening cancer care services and facilitating access to comprehensive support for patients. The proposed project reflects MIH’s continued efforts to expand its healthcare initiatives and respond to the needs of patients and their families.

Dr. Mir Abdul Waheed, Medical Director of MIH, highlighted the importance of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment. He emphasized that awareness and prompt medical consultation are essential to ensuring that potential warning signs are evaluated and patients receive appropriate care.

Providing clinical insights, Dr. Saira Mahmood, Consultant Breast Surgeon, discussed breast cancer risk factors and warning signs, stressing the importance of recognizing changes in the breast and seeking timely medical assessment. Dr. Ayesha Amin, Consultant Radiologist, highlighted the role of mammography and appropriate screening in detecting breast abnormalities and supporting early diagnosis.
Addressing the emotional impact of cancer, Ms. Zubia Zubair, Psychologist, underscored the importance of mental health support for patients and their families. She highlighted how emotional well-being, compassionate care and access to supportive services can help individuals navigate the challenges associated with diagnosis and treatment.

As part of the campaign, MIH is offering 50% off mammography and screening services throughout the three-month initiative, encouraging women to prioritize their health and seek appropriate screening based on medical advice.
The accompanying Cancer Support Group aims to provide a supportive environment for individuals affected by cancer and their families, recognizing that cancer care extends beyond medical treatment to include psychological support, understanding and compassionate engagement.

Ms. Rubina Afzal, Head, Maroof Community Support Program and Global Projects, highlighted MIH’s commitment to sustained community health initiatives and preventive awareness. She emphasized the importance of beginning the campaign within the hospital itself through the principle of care for the caregivers, while extending awareness and support to educational institutions, corporate organizations and underserved communities.

The session concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony attended by the Ambassador, hospital leadership, doctors and staff, marking the beginning of the hospital’s sustained three-month awareness initiative.
Through this campaign, Maroof International Hospital aims to strengthen public understanding of breast cancer, encourage timely screening, promote mental health awareness and foster a supportive environment for patients and their families.

The message is clear: early detection matters, mental health matters, and no one should have to face cancer without support.
