JICA President Dr. TANAKA Akihiko Makes First Official Visit to Pakistan
JICA President TANAKA Reviews Japan-Supported Water Projects
Islamabad – 3 August 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : JICA President Dr. TANAKA Akihiko is visiting Pakistan from August 1, marking his first official visit to the country and the visit by a JICA President since 2020, says press note.
On August 2, 2026, Dr. TANAKA toured the Old Jhal Khanuana Water Treatment Plant and related water supply facilities developed with JICA’ Grant Aid in Faisalabad.

During the visit, Dr. Tanaka observed how the newly operational water treatment plant, upgraded transmission and distribution networks, and DX-driven water supply are helping provide safe and sustainable drinking water services to local communities. Dr. Tanaka also visited beneficiary households to hear firsthand how improved water services have positively impacted their daily lives.
The visit highlighted the tangible impact of Japan-Pakistan cooperation and reaffirmed JICA’s commitment to supporting improved urban water services, enhancing quality of life, and strengthening the long-standing relationship of trust between Japan and Pakistan.
