Indonesia-China Ties Gain Momentum with Expanded Strategic Cooperation

Jakarta – 24 August2026 (MT Team) : Indonesia and China have agreed to strengthen economic, security and strategic cooperation following their first Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue in Jakarta.

The talks, led by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, focused on expanding trade and investment, defense, energy, minerals, technology and maritime cooperation. The two sides also agreed to enhance joint military exercises, defense-industry cooperation and technology exchanges.

Indonesia and China further discussed food and energy security, artificial intelligence, satellite communications, green energy and fisheries, while supporting regional efforts on the South China Sea.

The agreement reflects Jakarta’s efforts to deepen economic and strategic ties with Beijing while maintaining its non-aligned foreign policy and relations with other major powers.
