Bazeecha Trust: A Place of Healing, Hope & New Begining
Bazeecha Trust was established to provide a sanctuary for vulnerable women and children facing abuse, neglect, and displacement. The organization emerged from the urgent need to support girls affected by the 2005 earthquake, particularly those who suffered from exploitation in unsupervised shelters. Witnessing the severe mismanagement of aid and the alarming abuse cases, a group of concerned individuals took it upon themselves to create a secure space for these victims.
What started as a modest rented house soon grew into a structured and transparent organization, committed to providing shelter, education, and vocational training to girls and women in distress. Unlike many institutions, Bazeecha Trust has never accepted government or donor agency funds, ensuring complete autonomy and ethical management of resources.
Providing Stability and Security
Bazeecha Trust is built on the principle of integrity and accountability. The trust has upheld its commitment to transparency by meticulously managing finances through personal and community contributions. Annual audits ensure ethical financial handling, while a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers oversee its daily operations.
The shelter not only provides basic necessities such as food, clothing, and healthcare but also focuses on the emotional well-being of its residents. Trauma counseling and mental health support are integral parts of the program, addressing the psychological scars of abuse and displacement.
Expanding to Support Adult Women
Recognizing the need to assist not only young girls but also adult women escaping abusive environments, Bazeecha Trust expanded its mission. A donor from the United States provided a property in Sarai Harbooza, Islamabad, enabling the organization to establish a dedicated shelter for adult women. This facility serves as a refuge for victims of domestic violence, forced marriages, and abandonment, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.
Rescuing and Rehabilitating Victims of Abuse
Bazeecha Trust has rescued many women and children from severe abuse and trauma, highlighting the widespread violence faced by vulnerable groups in Pakistan. One harrowing case involved a woman whose husband amputated her hands, leaving her incapable of caring for her children. Through a partnership with the Child Foundation, she was provided with artificial limbs and emotional rehabilitation. Another case involved a young girl subjected to incest by her father. When her mother reported the crime, she was shunned by the community. The trust intervened to ensure the girl’s safety and long-term well-being. In another instance, a South African woman found herself trapped in a forced marriage. With the assistance of her country’s embassy, she was rescued and provided with a secure living environment.

The trust also runs a Diploma in Remedial Therapy, training women to work with children facing learning difficulties, a profession with increasing demand following the passage of Pakistan’s Dyslexia Special Measures Bill.
One of the most inspiring success stories is that of Malka, who arrived at Bazeecha Trust as a six-year-old earthquake survivor. Today, at 23, she manages the foundation herself, exemplifying the power of resilience and rehabilitation.
