Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has formally urged President Asif Ali Zardari to convene the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) meeting, stressing the need for a fair financial distribution among provinces.
In his letter, Gandapur pointed out that after the 2018 merger of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province’s population grew by 5.7 million. However, the financial allocations have not been adjusted accordingly, and funds for these regions are still being managed under the outdated 7th NFC Award from 2010.
He emphasized that continuing with the old NFC formula is unconstitutional and deprives Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of its rightful share. Gandapur called on the federal government to recognize the province’s updated population figures and ensure an equitable share of resources for the newly merged districts. He urged President Zardari to immediately convene the NFC meeting to address this long-standing financial disparity.
