Gilani Pays Tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Extends Pakistan’s Condolences in Tehran
Pakistan, Iran Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace and Stronger Bilateral Ties
Tehran – 4 July 2026 (MT Team) : Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, for wide-ranging talks covering Pakistan-Iran relations, cooperation between the two parliaments, regional stability, challenges confronting the Muslim world, and broader efforts toward global peace.
During the meeting, Gilani offered his condolences to Iran’s government, parliament, and people over the death of the Supreme Leader, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran at this difficult juncture and stressing that regional peace, stability, and prosperity depend on continued cooperation, Says press note. Gilani further noted that Pakistan and Iran are connected through deep historical, religious, cultural, and fraternal bonds that deserve to be reinforced through greater collaboration. He called for expanded parliamentary exchanges, stronger economic ties, increased trade, and closer people-to-people connections between the two nations.
For his part, Ghalibaf expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent support and solidarity during challenging times for Iran, describing Pakistan as a genuine and dependable friend and noting that Iran’s leadership and citizens hold Pakistan in high regard.
Both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the Pakistan-Iran relationship and building on cooperation aimed at regional peace, stability, and prosperity, as well as advancing global peace through sustained engagement between the two countries.
Gilani also conveyed condolences on behalf of Pakistan’s parliament, government, and people to Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the country’s leadership over the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying that Pakistan shares in the grief of the Iranian people.
Praising the late leader’s religious, intellectual, and scholarly contributions, Gilani said Khamenei had played an important role in promoting unity within the Muslim world, upholding Islamic values, and offering guidance to Muslims globally — a legacy he said would continue to be remembered with respect.
Gilani, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, offered prayers for the departed leader’s eternal peace and for strength and patience for the people of Iran during this period of mourning.
