Chairman IPO-Pakistan Visits ICCBS at Karachi University
Karachi – 4 November 2026 (MT Team) : Dr. Hafiz Aziz ur Rehman, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO-Pakistan), Ministry of Commerce, Islamabad, visited the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, on Tuesday.
The Chairman, accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Fayyaz, Controller of Patents, and Saima Kanwal, Assistant Controller of Patents, was received by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS.
IPO-Pakistan, which operates under the Ministry of Commerce, is the national body responsible for the administration, protection, and promotion of intellectual property rights in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Dr. Hafiz Aziz ur Rehman and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly the registration and protection of patents for scientific inventions and intellectual property rights related to research discoveries. They also discussed ways to promote scientific research and strengthen research infrastructure in higher education institutions.
Dr. Aziz ur Rehman appreciated the state-of-the-art research facilities available to students at ICCBS and commended its international standing as a leading center of scientific research. He emphasized the importance of strengthening research infrastructure in universities and other higher education institutions to foster innovation and promote academic excellence in the country.
Earlier, Prof. Raza Shah briefed the visiting delegation on the establishment and development of ICCBS and its major scientific contributions. He also highlighted the Centre’s research activities in molecular medicine, drug discovery, forensic science, and natural product chemistry.
