Pakistan, Azerbaijan Reaffirm Strategic Partnership, Pledge to Expand Cooperation in IT, Trade and Defence

Minister Shaza Fatima Reaffirms Pakistan’s Unwavering Support for Azerbaijan, Calls for Stronger Economic and Diplomatic Ties

Islamabad – 4 November 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : Embassy of Azerbaijan commemorated the 6th Victory Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Islamabad where Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja graced the event as Chief Guest. The event was attended by military attaches, diplomats, Govt officials and media persons.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan, highlighting the strong brotherly relations between the two countries and stressing the need to further expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, information technology, defence and other key sectors.

Addressing a ceremony as a Chief Guest, the Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people, paying tribute to their leadership, armed forces and sacrifices during the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020.

She welcomed Azerbaijan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, Irfan Davudov, and expressed confidence that his tenure would further strengthen bilateral relations. She appreciated Azerbaijan’s consistent support for Pakistan at international forums, particularly on the Kashmir issue, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Emphasising the growing strategic partnership, Shaza Fatima called for translating strong political relations into greater economic engagement, particularly through trade, investment, digital transformation, innovation and emerging technologies. She also highlighted expanding defence cooperation and acknowledged Azerbaijan’s solidarity with Pakistan during challenging times.

Concluding her remarks, the minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan across all sectors, expressing her wishes for continued peace, prosperity and development in the brotherly country.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan Irfan Davudov, addressing a ceremony marking Azerbaijan’s Victory Day in Islamabad on November 3, paid tribute to the Azerbaijani martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while highlighting the historic significance of the 2020 Patriotic War and the liberation of Azerbaijani territories after nearly 30 years of occupation.

The Ambassador said the victory was achieved through the courage of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the political, diplomatic and military leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the unity of the Azerbaijani people. He noted that November 8 was designated as Victory Day in recognition of the liberation of Shusha, Azerbaijan’s cultural capital and a strategically important city in Karabakh. He stated that Azerbaijan had pursued peaceful negotiations for nearly three decades, but continued provocations and the failure to implement four UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 1993 had made military action inevitable.

Emphasising that military victory must lead to lasting peace, Ambassador Davudov said Azerbaijan had proposed a peace agreement with Armenia immediately after the Patriotic War and remained committed to negotiations based on mutual respect, sovereignty, territorial integrity, good-neighbourly relations and regional cooperation.

He highlighted ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation in the liberated territories, including the construction of residential settlements, infrastructure, roads and bridges, as well as the restoration of religious and cultural monuments. He said demining operations were continuing, noting that more than one million mines had been deployed in the territories during the occupation period. He further stated that more than 120,000 people, including workers and former internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning to their ancestral lands, were now present in the liberated territories under the government’s resettlement programme.

The Ambassador described the restoration of security, stability and peaceful life in the liberated areas as an achievement of Azerbaijan’s policies, founded by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and implemented and developed by President Ilham Aliyev.

Highlighting Azerbaijan-Pakistan relations, Ambassador Davudov expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for their consistent political, diplomatic and moral support during the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. He said Pakistan’s political courage, diplomatic wisdom and commitment to international law had always been highly appreciated by the Azerbaijani people and state.

He noted that bilateral relations were experiencing their highest stage of development, reflected in high-level visits, participation in international events, cooperation between media organisations, scientific and educational institutions, government bodies, non-governmental organisations and business communities, as well as expanding military and military-technical cooperation.

The Ambassador described the establishment of ASAN Service Islamabad, with Azerbaijan’s close participation and assistance, as a prominent symbol of friendship and brotherhood between the two countries.

Concluding his address, Ambassador Irfan Davudov thanked the guests, the staff of the Azerbaijani Embassy and the Islamabad Marriott Hotel team for organising the event and reaffirmed the enduring friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, saying, “Long live Azerbaijani-Pakistani friendship and brotherhood.”
