Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has achieved a significant milestone with a record-breaking oil and gas discovery at the Baragzai X-01 well, located within the Nashpa Exploration Licence. The discovery is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s domestic energy resources and reinforce OGDC’s position as the country’s leading exploration and production company.
According to the company, testing of five productive zones at the Baragzai X-01 well has revealed an impressive production potential of 15,000 barrels of oil per day (BPD) and 45 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas. This makes it one of the most promising hydrocarbon discoveries in recent years.
The discovery comes at a crucial time when Pakistan is striving to reduce its dependence on imported fuels and enhance national energy security. Increased domestic production can help lower the country’s energy import bill, improve foreign exchange savings, and contribute to a more stable energy supply for industries and consumers.
OGDC has played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector for decades, consistently investing in exploration activities to unlock new hydrocarbon reserves. The success at Baragzai X-01 reflects the company’s technical expertise, advanced exploration capabilities, and commitment to expanding the country’s indigenous energy resources.
Beyond its contribution to energy security, the discovery is expected to generate positive economic benefits through increased investment, employment opportunities, government revenues, and support for industrial growth. It also highlights the importance of continued exploration in Pakistan’s sedimentary basins to meet the nation’s growing energy demand.
The Baragzai X-01 discovery marks another landmark achievement for OGDC, demonstrating how strategic exploration and innovation can drive sustainable growth, strengthen Pakistan’s energy future, and support long-term economic development.
