OGDC Signs Landmark Deal with SNF

OGDC Partners with SNF for Advanced Water Injection Technology in Pakistan

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has signed a landmark agreement with SNF S.A., a global leader in polyacrylamide production, to deploy advanced Water Injection Systems (WIS) at the Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Hyderabad district, Sindh.

The agreement marks a significant step toward enhancing Pakistan’s oil and gas production capacity while integrating cutting-edge international technology into local operations.

High-Profile Signing Ceremony in Islamabad

The signing ceremony took place at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad and was attended by key stakeholders, including:

  • Ali Pervaiz Malik
  • Ahmed Hayat Lak
  • Nicolas Galey

Senior officials from both OGDC and SNF were also present, highlighting the importance of this collaboration for Pakistan’s energy future and international partnerships.

Enhancing Production Through Advanced Water Injection Systems

The project focuses on installing and operating state-of-the-art Water Injection Systems designed to:

  • Enhance reservoir pressure
  • Optimise oil recovery rates
  • Ensure long-term, sustainable production performance

By leveraging SNF’s global expertise and latest technologies, OGDC aims to significantly improve efficiency at the Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields.

Technology Transfer and Capacity Building

A key feature of the agreement is its long-term capacity-building component. After the completion of the initial two phases, operational control and technology will be transferred to OGDC.

This will enable the company to independently manage and operate the facilities, supported by the technical expertise gained during the collaboration—strengthening Pakistan’s indigenous energy capabilities.

Long-Term Economic Impact and Revenue Potential

The project has a designed operational life of approximately 20 years and is expected to deliver substantial production gains, including:

  • An increase of approximately 9 million barrels of oil
  • Additional gas production of around 3 billion cubic feet

With these enhancements, the initiative is projected to generate an estimated USD 460 million in additional revenue over the lifecycle of the fields, making it a high-impact investment for Pakistan’s energy sector.

Strengthening Pakistan’s Energy Future

This collaboration between OGDC and SNF underscores Pakistan’s commitment to modernising its energy infrastructure through international partnerships, advanced technology, and sustainable practices.

By improving recovery rates and operational efficiency, the project not only boosts economic returns but also contributes to long-term energy security.
