Sri Lanka’s 78th Independence Day Celebration

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan hosted a reception in Islamabad to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka, with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar attending as the chief guest.

Congratulating Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar highlighted the long-standing, brotherly relationship between the two countries. He noted their history of mutual support and cooperation across sectors such as economy, education, culture, sports, and defense training.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne reflected on Sri Lanka’s journey since independence in 1948, praising the resilience of its people in overcoming challenges including terrorism, natural disasters, and economic crises.

The event was attended by diplomats, dignitaries, senior Pakistani military officials, and members of the Sri Lankan community. The reception also showcased Sri Lanka’s culinary heritage, with guests enjoying traditional dishes
