On Monday, Islamabad’s Sector G-13 witnessed an unspeakable tragedy: 17-year-old TikTok creator Sana Yousaf was shot dead in her home—a vibrant life extinguished in what police suspect to be yet another so-called honour killing.
This is more than a personal loss.
It is a national shame.
It is a brutal reminder of the dangers faced by girls who dare to be visible, vocal, and free.
Sana Yousaf was not just a social media personality
She was a proud Chitrali girl, a cultural ambassador, a youth icon.
Her content wasn’t trivial — it was transformative. Her voice empowered, educated, and inspired young women across Pakistan to take up space, to celebrate their identity, and to challenge outdated norms.
That voice has now been silenced — violently, irreversibly.
And let’s be clear: this was not a “private matter.”
This was not about honour.
This was about patriarchal control, about fear of female autonomy, about a society that punishes women for daring to live freely.
We demand #JusticeForSanaYousaf
Her murder must not be buried under silence or wrapped in cultural excuses.
We call on the authorities to:
Immediately arrest and prosecute the perpetrator(s)
Conduct a transparent and thorough investigation
Deliver swift and uncompromising justice
Take concrete legislative and social steps to eradicate honour-based violence in Pakistan
There is no honour in murder.
There is no tradition in silencing girls.
There is only cowardice, complicity, and cruelty.
Today we mourn Sana
Tomorrow, we fight louder — for her, and for every girl whose light dares to shine in the dark.
