The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Tuesday agreed to promote parliamentary diplomacy for further enhancing bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation in diverse areas of economy, trade, investment, aviation, climate change, peace and security, culture and tourism. To this end, a comprehensive discussion was held during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the FDR Ethiopia to Pakistan, and the Honorable Chairman of Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen parliamentary relations especially by exchanging high level delegations, and establishing a Pakistan-Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan. On the occasion, the Ambassador briefed the Senate Chairman about the initiatives taken by the FDR Ethiopia for regional integration, and also its leading role in ensuring peace and security in the Horn of Africa through joint counter-terrorism efforts with neighboring countries.
