Yoga’s 5 Lessons for Life

Inner and Outer Resilience
by Aliya Agha

Imagine a soldier in training. During the peaceful times, the rigorous routines, the exhaustive drills, and the relentless practice, might seem arduous and taxing. However, it is precisely this dedication and commitment to training during peaceful times that fortify the soldier's skills, strength, and mental fortitude.

When the storm of war finally descends, and the battlefield turns chaotic, it is this very soldier who stands resilient and prepared. Its his sweat shed in training that becomes his shield against the harsh blows of war.

Life, according to ancient scriptures of Yoga, is like a battlefield. On a deeper level, this principle encourages us to cultivate our inner peace and resilience. In times of tranquillity, we should engage in practices that nurture our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

To embody this wisdom in our daily lives, Yoga teaches us to embrace the following practices:

1. Never Stop Learning: Learning is a lifelong pursuit. Putting a stop to learning is like cutting the root of a tree. Alzheimer and dementia are associated with degeneration of brain due to inactive intellectual engagement
2. Mindfulness and Meditation: Engage in regular mindfulness and meditation practices. These peaceful moments of introspection and active gratitude build mental resilience and emotional stability.
3. Physical Wellness: A healthy body supports a resilient mind. Consistency is key to exercise and a healthy diet.
4. Emotional Preparation: Cultivate supportive relationships and practice empathy. These connections and skills provide emotional support during challenging times.
5. Power of Prayer: Nurture your spiritual well-being through prayer and connection with a higher purpose.
