Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provided timeless wisdom on healthy eating habits, which can greatly enhance our Ramadan experience:
1. Break your fast with dates and water – This follows the Sunnah and allows the digestive system to adjust before consuming a full meal.
2. Eat in moderation – Overeating can lead to sluggishness. The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The worst vessel a human can fill is his stomach.” (Ibn Majah)
3. Hydrate well between iftar and suhoor – Drinking sufficient water is essential to prevent dehydration.
4. Include fiber-rich foods – This helps prevent bloating, indigestion, and constipation, which can occur due to dietary changes during Ramadan.
5. Avoid processed foods and overeating – Excess consumption can lead to health issues and contradicts the spirit of self-discipline in Ramadan.
6. Share your food with others – Feeding a fasting person brings great rewards, reinforcing the spirit of generosity in Ramadan.
It is recommended to recite du’as for before and after eating to show our appreciation and gratitude to Allah. Anas ibn Malik narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Allah is pleased with a servant who eats a meal and praises Him for it, and drinks a drink and praises Him for it.
