Rawalpindi to Get New Underpass on Mall Road to Ease Traffic Congestion

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has approved the construction of a new underpass on Mall Road in Saddar to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.

The double-barrel underpass will be built from TM Chowk to MH Chowk, making Mall Road a signal-free corridor. According to officials, the construction is set to begin on February 17 and is expected to be completed within two months.

A pedestrian sidewalk will also be constructed as part of the project. To manage traffic disruptions, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has devised an alternative traffic plan, as Mall Road will remain closed during the construction period.

Traffic Diversion Plan:
150 traffic police personnel will be deployed at key points to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Vehicles traveling from MH Chowk to TM Chowk will be diverted to Haider Road, which runs parallel to Mall Road, allowing easy access to Murree Road and Kutchery Chowk.
CTO Beenish Fatima has urged commuters to follow traffic police guidelines and reach out for assistance if needed. She also mentioned that 2,000 guideline materials have already been distributed to raise public awareness.

Once completed, the underpass is expected to significantly improve traffic movement on Mall Road and ease congestion in surrounding areas.
