Islamabad: Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani attended a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In his address, Gillani congratulated the Chinese leadership and people, praising China’s progress under the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping’s vision. He described Pak-China relations as an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and iron brotherhood,” rooted in trust, shared values, and people-to-people ties.
He acknowledged China’s support to Pakistan during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, and highlighted defence cooperation, including the JF-17 program and J-10C fighter jets, as key elements of stability. Gillani also hailed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and Gwadar Port as symbols of shared prosperity, while stressing the importance of cultural and educational exchanges, Confucius Institutes, and scholarships. Recalling the contributions of leaders such as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mao Zedong, and Zhou Enlai, he reaffirmed that Pak-China friendship has endured the test of time.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, addressing the gathering, said China will continue to work with Pakistan to further strengthen the ironclad friendship and all-dimensional cooperation. He emphasized upholding high-level mutual trust and fostering a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
