The court has issued arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Umar Ayub, Aamir Dogar, and Aamir Mughal for violating Section 144. The hearing took place before Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan in Islamabad’s District and Sessions Court. While the court granted exemption requests for Shoaib Shaheen and Barrister Gohar Khan, it postponed the acquittal pleas, adjourning the case until April 23. Two cases have been registered against Barrister Gohar Khan and others at I-9 Police Station.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court granted bail to 18 PTI workers who were arrested during protests in November 2024. These individuals had been in custody for 92 days in Attock, Jhelum, and Adiala jails. The defense argued that they were taken from their homes without clear charges, emphasizing that peaceful protest is a constitutional right. Due to a lack of evidence, the court approved their release on the condition of submitting surety bonds worth Rs0.1 million each. Among those released are Umar Farooq, Obaidullah Khan, Zainul Abidin, and others.
The arrests were made by police from Hassan Abdal Saddar, Hazro, and Rawalpindi stations. Additionally, hearings for bail petitions of 1,249 other PTI workers are scheduled to begin on March 3.
