Thailand Celebrates National Day in Islamabad, Pays Tribute to King Bhumibol’s Legacy
Thai Ambassador Stresses Expanding Economic and ASEAN Engagement with Pakistan
Islamabad – 5 December 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : Thailand observed its National Day in Islamabad on December 4, with Ambassador Rongvudhi Virabutr emphasizing the significance of the occasion, which also commemorates the Birthday Anniversary of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Thailand’s Father’s Day. The event took place during a period of national mourning following the passing of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.

The ambassador highlighted King Bhumibol’s 70-year reign and his over 4,000 Royal Projects, noting the UN’s recognition of December 5 as World Soil Day in honor of the late King’s contributions to soil science. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to deepening its friendship with Pakistan as both countries approach 75 years of diplomatic ties in 2026.
Ambassador Virabutr underlined Thailand’s collaboration with UN Women in Swabi and Sialkot, supporting livelihood and regenerative agriculture programs for rural women. He also acknowledged Jennifer Innes Taylor (Khun Jane) of Udon Organic Farm for her role in training women in sustainable farming techniques.


Calling for accelerated economic cooperation, the envoy stressed the early conclusion of the Pakistan–Thailand Free Trade Agreement and highlighted Thailand’s interest in expanding partnership in high-value halal industries. He also noted Thailand’s efforts, as ASEAN Committee chair in Islamabad, to strengthen ASEAN–Pakistan engagement.

Minister of State for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, congratulated Thailand on its National Day and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, defense, security, culture, and tourism. He commended Ambassador Virabutr for his services in promoting strong Pakistan–Thailand relations.
