Ambassador of Sweden Opens “Portraits of Adornments” by Minaa Haroon in Islamabad
Minaa Haroon Brings Her Artistic Vision to Satrang Gallery in Islamabad
Islamabad – 3 October, 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : Satrang Art Gallery inaugurated a thought-provoking exhibition titled “Portraits of Adornments” by artist Minaa Haroon in Islamabad on October 2, 2025. The event was graced by Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan, as Guest of Honor.
In her remarks, the Ambassador of Sweden appreciated the depth and creativity of Minaa Haroon’s work, noting its powerful engagement with memory, culture, and identity.
Welcoming the audience, Asma Rashid Khan, Director and Founding Director of Satrang Art Gallery, stated that I am delighted to open Portraits of Adornments, a solo show of Minaa Haroon. Her practice reimagines jewelry not merely as decoration but as powerful storytellers of women’s experiences across generations. By drawing from her mother’s jewelry as a personal archive, she creates a space where memory and objects converge, encouraging reflection on identity, femininity, and belonging within wider cultural and political contexts.”
Artist Minaa Haroon shared the inspiration behind her work, remarking that, Throughout history, civilizations have been uncovered through their material culture. My journey begins with the intimate—my mother’s jewelry—and expands into a broader exploration of feminine accessories as vessels of women’s memories, struggles, and desires. By transforming inherited adornments into historical entities, the personal becomes political, opening layered reinterpretations of femininity, inheritance, and cultural heritage.”
The exhibition highlights how inherited jewelry in South Asian traditions serves as more than ornamental value, embodying continuity, resilience, and collective history. Haroon’s practice honors these legacies while questioning the boundaries and limitations they may carry.
The exhibition is now open to the public at Satrang Art Gallery, offering audiences a compelling narrative of memory, identity, and the cultural resonance of material heritage.
