Stars of Unity

By Adeela Shah | Published July 31, 2024

Adeela Shah, a dynamic visual artist explores identity in a world where nation-building and societal narratives often blur the lines. She constructs geometric stars through collage-making. This unique method unveils the diversity within familiar visuals. She constructs collages with materials and mediums that are a part of her household and belongings of family members; this “conscious act of intermingling individual attachments and interests creates a space which represents diversity and unison”.

Ms. Shah made history by becoming the first student to earn an MPhil degree with Distinction from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, where she now shares her wisdom as an Assistant Professor. In her own words Adeels describes, “Similar to geometric stars, the histories of people too have a geometry of interconnections which record the politics of surveillance and representation. The awareness of these connections and shared affiliations can alter perceptions of the past and construct new visions for the future”.
