High Commission of Sri Lanka and Partner Missions to Commemorate Vesak Day
Islamabad – 10 April 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : The High Commission, in coordination with several Missions representing countries with Buddhist heritage based in Islamabad, is planning to organize a commemorative programme to mark Vesak on 1st May 2026. The third preparatory meeting of the organizing committee in this regard was hosted by High Commissioner Fred Senevirathne, together with the Mission staff, at the official residence on 02nd April 2026, says press note.
Ambassadors and representatives of the Missions of Thailand, Viet Nam, Myanmar, and Nepal participated in the meeting and assured their collective support to make this initiative a success.
All participating Missions have assured their active cooperation for the proposed programme, which will be held at the Dharmarajika Buddhist heritage site and the Taxila Museum in the historic Gandhara region. The programmek will include Buddhist religious observances at Dharmarajika and a religious conference at the Taxila Museum.
High level representatives of the Government of Pakistan, as well as devotees from the respective countries, are expected to participate in the event and its observances. The High Commission will also coordinate the visit of a venerable Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka to deliver a Dhamma sermon and provide spiritual leadership for the programme.
This collective endeavour reflects a shared commitment to promoting Buddhist cultural and religious heritage and to fostering spiritual diplomacy through collaboration among like minded nations in Pakistan.
