Seneviratne Leads Sri Lankan Mission to Pakistan

Veteran Naval Officer Seneviratne Takes Helm at Sri Lankan Mission to Reinforce Strategic Ties with Pakistan

Islamabad – 30 June 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : The newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne (Rtd.) VSV, USP, psc, MSc (DS), who arrived in Islamabad on 25 June 2025, officially assumed duties at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad on Thursday, 26 June 2025.

High Commissioner– designate was received and welcomed by the staff of the High Commission. In his address to the staff, High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne outlined the Government’s vision for strengthening the Mission’s activities, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Sri Lanka and the mandate entrusted to the Government. Also, highlighted that both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are strategic partners in South Asia and the relationship established between two brotherly countries based on mutual trust.

His assumption of duties was marked by the lighting of the oil lamp, religious ritual and addressing to the staff followed by refreshments served with traditional Sri Lanka savories and sweets at the High Commission level.

Following the assumption of duties, High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne paid a visit to International Buddhist Centre in Diplomatic Enclave where offered flowers and worshipped. Prior to the appointment as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Fred Seneviratne served as a Advisor to Commander of the Navy on Monitoring and Supervising all Naval Land Operations and Marine Operations, Formulate/Plans & Strategies to Achieve Optimum Results from Naval Land Deployments and Marine Deployments with other Armed Forces.

The High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1986 and rose to the Rank of Rear Admiral 09 March 2019 to 25th August 2020. He holds a Master of Defernce Studies Degree from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
