Located in the region of Kirthar Range in Sindh, Pakistan, Ranikot Fort is a monumental relic of architectural ambition. Encompassing over 30 kilometers of fortified walls, it is often hailed as the “Great Wall of Sindh” and is believed to be one of the largest fortifications in the world. Rani Kot has been built on a formidable scale.

Ranikot is believed to be the largest fort in the world, with walls extending over 30 kilometers in circumference. It’s often called the Great Wall of Sindh due to its vast size and resemblance to ancient fortifications seen in other parts of the world.

No one knows for sure who built Ranikot. While some theories link it to ancient civilizations, many historians believe it was reconstructed in the early 1800s by the Talpur dynasty. Its purpose is still debated—was it a defensive fort, a royal retreat, or a tribal sanctuary?

Ranikot has four main gates, but most visitors enter through the Sann Gate. Inside, you’ll find two notable enclosures:
– Meeri Kot, believed to be the royal residence, and
– Shergarh, a fortress perched high above the rest of the fort, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills.

Despite its scale and beauty, Ranikot remains off the mainstream tourist map. There’s no commercial development inside, which gives the place a haunting stillness. It’s perfect for explorers, photographers, and history lovers seeking something truly unique.

One of the fort’s most magical spots is a small spring known as Parriyon Jo Tar, or Fairy’s Pond. Locals say fairies visit the pond during full moons. The fort also contains ancient graveyards, mosques, and ruined structures, each with its own whispered story.
