Federal Ministry’s PNAC Awards Certificate to HCTRS at the University of Karachi

Karachi – 17 March 2026 (MT Team) : The Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, has awarded a Certificate of Accreditation to the Halal Certification, Testing and Research Services (HCTRS) at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.

According to PNAC, the accreditation is subject to regular surveillance and continued compliance with its requirements, and is valid until February 26, 2029.

It is pertinent to mention that the Halal Certification, Testing and Research Services operates under the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry at ICCBS, University of Karachi.

This organizational achievement was discussed during a meeting held on Tuesday at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS. During the meeting, the director was informed that the accreditation decision by PNAC confirms that the organization fulfills the required standards within its defined scope.

Acknowledging the efforts of the technical and nontechnical staff at HCTRS, Prof. Raza Shah remarked that this significant achievement reflects strong technical expertise and high-quality assurance practices.

He said that HCTRS at ICCBS is a well-reputed and highly productive halal services center of the University of Karachi, providing a comprehensive one-window solution for halal certification, testing, training, and research. He added that it is the only public-sector research institution in the country offering such integrated halal services and is committed to excellence in laboratory operations.

Prof. Raza Shah noted that PNAC accreditation for HCTRS carries significant national and international importance, as it strengthens credibility, ensures compliance with global standards, and enhances Pakistan’s position in the growing halal industry.

He further stated that PNAC accreditation transforms HCTRS from a local certification body into a globally credible, scientifically reliable, and economically strategic institution within the halal ecosystem.
