Pakistan Monument Illuminated in Russian Colors on National Flag Day

State-of-the-art Pakistan Monument shines in red, white, and blue to mark Russia’s National Flag Day, reflecting Pakistan-Russia friendship

Islamabad – 22 August 2025 (Adnan Hameed): Russia celebrated its National Flag Day on Thursday, marking the historic legacy of the white-blue-red tricolor that has stood as the country’s official state symbol for over three centuries, says press note.

The day honors the Russian flag as a representation of sovereignty, independence, and unity of the nation’s diverse population across generations.

The origins of the tricolor date back to 1705, when Peter the Great decreed that the white, blue, and red flag be raised on Russian sea trading vessels. Since then, the flag has remained a symbol of resilience and continuity.

In a symbolic gesture of friendship between Russia and Pakistan, the iconic Pakistan Monument — a state-of-the-art national landmark in Islamabad — was illuminated in red, white, and blue to mirror the Russian tricolor. The colorful display highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
