Pakistan Celebrates Grand Egyptian Museum in Islamabad

Pakistan Joins Global Celebrations of the Grand Egyptian Museum Through a Egypt Embassy Event in Islamabad

“The Nile and the Indus continue to unite our civilizations through shared heritage and friendship”, says Egyptian Ambassador Ihab Abdelhamid

Islamabad – November 2, 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid, hosted a special gathering in Islamabad to mark the historic opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) — the largest archaeological museum in the world and a monumental tribute to Egypt’s ancient civilization.

In his remarks, the Ambassador extended a warm welcome to distinguished guests, diplomats, officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the media, describing the museum as “a symbol of Egypt’s deep respect for history, culture, and knowledge.”

Situated near the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum stands as an architectural masterpiece — covering 480,000 square meters with an investment exceeding one billion dollars. Designed under the auspices of UNESCO, the museum has been envisioned as a “fourth pyramid”, connecting Egypt’s glorious past with its modern vision for the future.

Dr. Abdelhamid noted that the museum houses over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time in history. The exhibits are enhanced by cutting-edge technology and augmented reality to bring ancient Egypt’s story vividly to life.

Emphasizing the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and Pakistan, the Ambassador highlighted shared values of peace, progress, and cultural understanding:
“Just as the Nile and the Indus have given life to two great civilizations, our nations continue to stand together in pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity.”

He encouraged tourism and travel agencies in Pakistan and abroad to collaborate with Egyptian partners to organize cultural tours to the Grand Egyptian Museum. He also invited media professionals and content creators to visit the museum and share its inspiring story with global audiences.

On this occasion, the Egyptian Embassy in Islamabad also showcased captivating visuals from the grand opening ceremony held in Giza, which was officially inaugurated by President El Sisi on 1st November 2025.

Concluding his remarks, the Ambassador Abdelhamid warmly invited friends from Pakistan and beyond to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum — “to walk through 7,000 years of history and witness how Egypt’s timeless heritage continues to inspire the future.”
