Kim Jong Un Meets Wang Yi, Reinforces China-DPRK Strategic Ties
China, DPRK Pledge Deeper Strategic Coordination for Global Peace and Development
Pyongyang – 10 April 2026 (MT Team) : Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, met with Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the headquarters of the Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee in Pyongyang.
Wang Yi conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings to General Secretary Kim Jong Un, warmly congratulated the successful convening of the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, and expressed his firm belief that under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea headed by General Secretary Kim Jong Un, and with the joint efforts of all the people of the DPRK, the cause of socialist construction in the DPRK will surely continue to reach new heights.
Wang Yi stated that in September of last year, General Secretary Kim Jong Un successfully visited China and attended activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. General Secretary Xi Jinping held a historic meeting with General Secretary Kim, providing strategic guidance for China-DPRK relations and ushering in a new phase in bilateral relations. China is willing to work with DPRK to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, strengthen exchanges and interactions, promote pragmatic cooperation, and inject new contemporary meaning into the traditional friendship between China and DPRK. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and DPRK are socialist countries led by communist parties, sharing common ideals, beliefs, and goals. Faced with a complex and volatile international situation, China and DPRK should, while firmly safeguarding their respective sovereignty, security, and development interests, further strengthen communication and coordination on major international and regional affairs, making due contributions to safeguarding the common interests of developing countries and maintaining world peace and development.
Kim Jong Un welcomed Wang Yi’s delegation and asked him to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to General Secretary Xi Jinping. Kim Jong Un stated that he vividly remembered his meeting with General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to China last September, and was pleased to see the important consensus reached during their meeting being concretely implemented. He noted that DPRK-China relations have reached a new height in line with the will and aspirations of the two parties and peoples. He emphasized that given the current rapidly changing international situation, continuously deepening and developing DPRK-China relations is in the common interest of both countries and is the firm will and established policy of the DPRK party and government. The DPRK fully supports General Secretary Xi Jinping’s concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and the four global initiatives, and firmly supports China’s legitimate position and all efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity on issues such as Taiwan. The DPRK is willing to take the grand blueprint established at the Ninth Congress of the DPRK party as an opportunity to work with China to further develop the DPRK-China friendly and cooperative relations with socialism at its core, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication, firmly support each other, advance the development of our respective socialist causes, and play a due role in the well-being of the two peoples and world peace and stability.
At the invitation of the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi visited the DPRK from April 9 to 10. During his visit, Wang Yi held in-depth talks with DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and paid respects at the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army Martyrs Cemetery in Gangdong County.
