JSMU Holds Its Seventh Convocation; Over 570 Graduates Awarded Degrees

Karachi – 14 January 2026 (MT Team) : The seventh convocation of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) was held today in a dignified ceremony, where over 570 students from various fields of health sciences were conferred degrees. The event reflected academic excellence, professional commitment, and the university’s continuous advancement in medical education.

The convocation was attended by national and provincial leadership, including Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari; Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah; and Minister for Universities and Boards and Pro-Chancellor. Distinguished guests, including Qaim Ali Shah, highlighted the importance of higher education and JSMU’s growing role in strengthening Pakistan’s health system.
Addressing the convocation, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “You have achieved this milestone by facing difficult challenges such as the global coronavirus pandemic, medical emergencies, and mental stress. Jinnah Sindh Medical University carries a great legacy, and medicine is fundamentally service to humanity. No society can be called civilized unless it gives equal respect to both nurses and doctors. The solution to Pakistan’s medical problems lies in your knowledge, ethics, and determination. Keep your success connected to public service, because this university has shaped not only your careers but also your character.”
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, stated: “The progress of Jinnah Sindh Medical University is commendable. This institution is the fruit of the foundation laid by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari. We expect the graduates to serve humanity and bring honor to Pakistan across the world.”
Vice-Chancellor Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, conferred the degrees and addressed the graduates, stating that the university is now firmly on a research-driven path. “JSMU has launched 10 PhD programs and established the Autism Centre and Rehabilitation Services. With 10 active institutes, we have become a prominent hub of comprehensive medical education. As you step into practical life, remember you are the ambassadors of this university—move forward and bring honor to Sindh.”
The convocation was organized under the supervision of the university leadership and a dynamic core committee. Vice-Chancellor JSMU Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nighat Ali Shah, Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, Convocation Chairperson Professor Dr. Huma Ali, and Co-Chairperson Professor Dr. Mahmood Hussain played a key role in the successful execution of the ceremony.
On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon thanked the provincial leadership and all partners, stating that this event reflects JSMU’s continuous academic progress, digital reforms, promotion of research programs, and modern educational and medical initiatives, including PhD programs.
A total of notable academic awards were presented at the seventh convocation of Jinnah Sindh Medical University. The ceremony included 11 gold medals, of which 9 were for first position and 2 were honors in Basic Medical and Dental Sciences. Additionally, 10 silver medals were awarded for second position and 9 bronze medals for third position. Nine students were also honored as Best Graduates across various programs. These figures are a clear testament to the academic standards, competitive environment, and exceptional hard work of the students, making JSMU’s seventh convocation a memorable and dignified academic event.
The graduates took a professional oath administered by Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nighat Ali Shah delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the convocation.
