Iran Denies Trump’s Letter, Rejects Nuclear Talks Amid Sanctions

Iran has dismissed claims that it received a letter from former US President Donald Trump, who allegedly sought a new nuclear agreement with Tehran. While Trump has expressed interest in diplomatic negotiations to curb Iran’s nuclear program, Iranian officials have categorically stated that no talks will take place as long as Washington’s sanctions remain in effect.

Reports suggest that Trump’s letter was addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging Tehran to engage in dialogue. Trump emphasized a preference for diplomacy but also hinted at military action should Iran refuse to negotiate. His administration had previously withdrawn from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and reinstated heavy economic sanctions on Iran.

Both the US and Israel have repeatedly stated that they will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. With Tehran advancing its uranium enrichment to near weapons-grade levels, tensions remain high. Trump warned that if Iran refuses to negotiate, military intervention could be considered as a last resort.

Despite the pressure, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that Tehran would not engage in discussions under duress. He stated that the US must lift its sanctions before any diplomatic engagement can be considered.

The United Nations has welcomed the idea of renewed diplomatic efforts, emphasizing that peaceful negotiations are the best way to ensure the non-military nature of Iran’s nuclear program. UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reaffirmed that diplomacy remains the preferred solution.
