Islamabad, 17 August 2025 (Adnan Hameed) – The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia celebrated the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day with a dignified Flag Hoisting Ceremony held at the Embassy premises, led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, Chandra W. Sukotjo.

The event was attended by embassy officials, their families, and hundreds of members of the Indonesian diaspora from across Pakistan. The proceedings began with a moment of silence to honor Indonesia’s national heroes, followed by the reading of the Proclamation of Independence. The ceremony concluded with special prayers for Indonesia’s prosperity, harmony, and strength.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Sukotjo extended heartfelt congratulations to the Indonesian community and warmly welcomed Pakistani guests, noting the shared spirit of Independence as Pakistan celebrates its Independence day just three days earlier on 14 August. “Pakistan Zindabad, Indonesia–Pakistan Dosti Zindabad!” the Ambassador chanted, emphasizing the deep bonds of friendship between the two nations.

The Ambassador introduced several distinguished guests, including Maj Gen (R) Asro, his senior whom he described as embodying the courage and resilience of the Indonesian people. He also welcomed Col Aref Lubis from the National Defence University in Islamabad, and highlighted the efforts of embassy officials across various sections – economic, business, political, protocol, consular, and defence – acknowledging their valuable contributions.

Special recognition was given to local and Pakistani staff working at the Embassy, for their dedication and continued support.

Speaking about Indonesia’s cultural richness, the Ambassador highlighted that the country is home to over 700 ethnic groups, each contributing to its vibrant identity. He also introduced special guests, including Ahmad from Lahore, two young Indonesian pilots, Taufik and Hendrik from Air Blue and Air Sial airlines, and Indonesian students studying in Islamabad.

The Ambassador announced a special initiative by the Indonesian President, under which free medical checkups are offered to women on special occasions as a token of gratitude and service to the people.

Underscoring the importance of people-to-people ties, Ambassador Sukotjo remarked, “Relations between Indonesia and Pakistan are not only government-to-government but also deeply rooted in our peoples’ hearts. Pakistan is always in the heart of Indonesia.”

Guests were also treated to a sumptuous spread of continental cuisine, with authentic Indonesian delicacies and refreshing traditional drinks stealing the spotlight. The culinary showcase reflected Indonesia’s cultural vibrancy and warm hospitality, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.

Special cultural performances were also presented by the Indonesian students, wearing colorful costumes, to entertain the audience.

In a closing note, the Ambassador introduced his spouse, acknowledging her as his greatest support and strength.
