Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking the suspension of their sentences in the £190 million corruption case.
According to PTI sources, the party’s legal team has meticulously prepared a petition challenging the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) decision. The petition argues that NAB acted maliciously, abusing its authority to fast-track a verdict without a complete investigation.
The legal plea also points out NAB’s failure to acquire the original agreement text from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), indicating procedural flaws in the investigation. Furthermore, the NCA officials were not consulted, raising concerns about the transparency of the prosecution.
Key Points in the Petition
• NAB allegedly conducted an incomplete investigation and failed to present solid evidence.
• The prosecution’s approach was biased and aimed at delivering a rushed verdict.
• The petitioners pledge full cooperation with the court during appeal hearings.
• Bail requested for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi until a final decision on the appeal is made.
The petition calls for suspension of their sentence, which was handed down on January 17, and requests immediate release on bail. The Islamabad High Court is expected to review the case in the coming days, making it a high-stakes legal battle with significant political implications.
