OGDCL’s Drug Prevention Initiative with DOST Foundation
Towards social betterment, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has partnered with the DOST Welfare Foundation to combat drug addiction in Kohat, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the company operates. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, OGDCL launched a two-year community-led program aimed at drug prevention, rehabilitation, and reintegration, fully funded by the company and implemented by DOST’s experienced team.
Why Drug Prevention? Why Now?
Drug addiction remains a growing concern in many regions of Pakistan, particularly among youth. OGDCL identified Kohat as a high-risk area where increasing substance abuse is silently damaging families and social structures. As a responsible corporate entity with a strong community presence in the district, OGDCL recognized the urgent need to intervene.
Through this initiative, the company aims to reduce drug dependency, raise public awareness, and provide vulnerable individuals with opportunities for recovery and reintegration. The project reflects OGDCL’s belief that corporate success is incomplete without social responsibility and community wellbeing.
A Strategic Collaboration with DOST Foundation
To ensure quality implementation and outreach, OGDCL joined hands with the DOST Welfare Foundation—a reputable organization with decades of experience in addiction treatment and community mobilization. DOST operates rehabilitation centers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is well-equipped to handle the clinical and psychological dimensions of addiction.
This partnership brings together OGDCL’s resources and DOST’s field expertise to make a real, lasting impact in the lives of individuals and families struggling with substance abuse.
What the Program Offers
The two-year initiative is already active in the Kohat district, where a dedicated service delivery center has been established to provide:
Awareness Campaigns** targeting youth, parents, and educators
Outreach Services** for identification and referral of drug users
Inpatient Rehabilitation** at DOST’s state-of-the-art facilities in Peshawar
Community-Based Follow-Up** and relapse prevention strategies
Social Reintegration** support to help recovered individuals resume healthy lives
Through these combined services, the program addresses both prevention and recovery—tackling the root causes of addiction while offering long-term solutions.
Impact So Far
Since its launch, the initiative has seen promising results. Community engagement sessions have reached hundreds of people, including students and at-risk youth. Dozens of individuals have already been referred for treatment, and several have completed rehabilitation successfully. Feedback from the Kohat community suggests growing awareness and willingness to support recovery.
These measurable outcomes reflect the program’s early success and hint at the broader societal change OGDCL hopes to inspire.
Looking Ahead
The current initiative in Kohat is just the beginning. OGDCL envisions expanding its drug prevention and rehabilitation work to other operational districts across Pakistan. By addressing addiction through a multi-pronged, community-based approach, the company aims to contribute meaningfully to a healthier, drug-free society.
OGDCL’s CSR vision is clear:
It is not just about extracting resources, but about investing them back into people and communities. Through partnerships like this with the DOST Foundation, OGDCL is proving that corporates can be agents of real social change—empowering individuals, restoring dignity, and building a better tomorrow.
