Ethiopia, Pakistan Agree on Fostering Strong Economic and Cultural Ties

Karachi – 2 May 2025 (M.T Team) :
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen economic and cultural ties by enhancing people-to-people exchanges and direct flights.

The important discussion to this end held in Karachi, Pakistan at the Sindh Chief Minister House during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the FDR Ethiopia, and Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh.

The two sides also explored various prospects of cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, agro processing, climate change, technology and culture.
H.E. Ibrahim Khalid Tawab, Honorary Consul of Ethiopia in Karachi, was also present in the meeting.

On the occasion, the Ambassador underlined the need for exchanging knowledge and sharing expertise to deal with the biggest threat of climate change and its different manifestations including floods, drought and others.

He shared the Green Legacy Initiative of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed as a success story to preserve ecosystem, conserve biodiversity, ensure food security and address poverty.
“Ethiopia is a role model in Africa in green economic development, setting a world record of planting over 40 billion seedlings in six years that creates job and ensures food security in Ethiopia and beyond,” he remarked.
The Ambassador invited the Chief Minister to grace the Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan being hosted by Ethiopia in October 2025 with his esteemed presence.

The Chief Minister expressed his desire to visit Ethiopia soon, noting the remarkable role being played by the Ethiopian Airlines in fostering strong people-to-people relations between the two countries.
He appreciated the green economic development achieved by Ethiopia under the leadership of Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

The Chief Minister assured the Ambassador of his full support in strengthening the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
