Ambassador Armellin Expresses Support for Strengthening Pakistan–Italy Legislative Ties

Italian Senate President Invited to November ISC in Islamabad

Islamabad — 11 August 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate, visited the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad to meet with Marilina Armellin, Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan.

During the meeting, Khar apprised the Ambassador of the creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a newly established multilateral forum designed to advance cooperation and dialogue among national parliaments. She noted that the ISC has already brought together 45 presiding officers from legislatures across the world, and that in elections recently held in Malaysia, Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously chosen as the organization’s inaugural President.

Khar conveyed an official invitation to Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, President of the Italian Senate, to participate in the first full session of the ISC, to be held in Islamabad on November 11–12, 2025.

She outlined the event’s core theme—Peace, Stability and Security—and explained its focus on fostering dialogue among parliamentary leaders to address pressing global challenges. She also shared the preparatory framework, including thematic discussions and high-level exchanges among delegations from multiple regions.

Ambassador Armellin welcomed the initiative and discussed avenues for enhanced parliamentary and institutional engagement between Pakistan and Italy.

At the end, both sides expressed confidence that Italy’s participation in the ISC would help strengthen dialogue and deepen ties between the two countries’ legislatures.
