Azerbaijan Thanks Pakistan at 107th Independence Day

Azerbaijan Hails Pakistan’s Role in Regional Stability and Climate Cooperation at 107th Anniversary of Independence Day in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – 23 May 2025 (Adnan Hameed): Embassy of Azerbaijan to Pakistan hosted a reception to mark the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, reaffirming the strong historical and diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

In his opening address, Ambassador Khazar Farhadov highlighted the formation of the first secular republic in the Muslim East on May 28, 1918, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s commitment to democratic values, sovereignty, and state-building, despite the early republic’s short existence of just 23 months.

He credited national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev for preserving Azerbaijan’s independence since its restoration in 1991, underlining the country’s progress in governance, diplomacy, and international cooperation.

Azerbaijani Ambassador expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan, which was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991 and has consistently supported Azerbaijan on bilateral and multilateral platforms. He particularly acknowledged Pakistan’s stance during the liberation of Azerbaijani territories previously occupied by Armenia and its support in the post-conflict era.

The Farhadov also detailed Azerbaijan’s 2020 military success in reclaiming its lands under international law and the recent anti-terror operation in September 2023, which fully restored sovereignty across the region. In recognition of these milestones, Azerbaijan has declared 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.”

Azerbaijan’s growing role on the global stage was also highlighted, including its leadership in the UN Security Council, Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Turkic States. Ambassador Farhadov further noted Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29 and extended gratitude to Pakistan for its participation, led by a high-level delegation under the Honorable Prime Minister, strengthening cooperation in global climate initiatives.

This celebration is not just about commemorating our independence, but also honoring the unwavering support of our brotherly nation, Pakistan,” the ambassador concluded.
