27 September Commemorated: Azerbaijan Pays Tribute to Martyrs in Islamabad
NUST Hosts Event on Azerbaijan’s Remembrance Day with Ambassador Farhadov
Islamabad – September 27, 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : Ambassador Khazar Farhadov of Azerbaijan addressed a conference at NUST University titled “27 September – Remembrance Day: The Great Heroism.” He expressed gratitude to participants and conveyed sincere regards to the leadership of NUST University for their support.
The Ambassador recalled that September 27 marks five years since the beginning of the 44-day Patriotic War, which resulted in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. He stated that on that day in 2020, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan undertook retaliatory actions in response to military provocations by Armenia. These actions, conducted under the right to self-defense and in accordance with international humanitarian law, aimed at halting Armenia’s aggression and ensuring civilian safety.
He noted that the Patriotic War ended nearly 30 years of Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory, upheld territorial integrity, and restored the rights of almost one million Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijan acted independently to implement UN Security Council resolutions of 1993. The Ambassador said the victory, achieved under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, ushered in a new era in Azerbaijan’s history and established international justice.
Ambassador Farhadov highlighted Pakistan’s consistent support, stating that during the Second Karabakh War, political support and straightforward statements from Pakistan’s leadership gave Azerbaijan additional power and strength.
He added that on September 19–20, 2023, Azerbaijan carried out counter-terrorism measures in the Karabakh region within 24 hours to end the existence of illegal Armenian forces and restore full sovereignty. He emphasized that ending the occupation exposed illegal activities by Armenia, including widespread mining, destruction and appropriation of cultural and religious heritage, plundering of natural resources, and destruction of infrastructure. These violations of international law, he said, have been documented and presented to the international community, and Armenia must be held accountable.
The Ambassador underlined that after the historic Victory, large-scale restoration and reconstruction projects were launched in Karabakh and East Zangezur, and thousands of people have already returned to their native lands.
He stressed that Azerbaijan has always advocated peace and stability, believing dialogue and partnership are the only paths to prosperity. He recalled that in Washington on August 8, 2025, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a Joint Declaration in the presence of the United States. The initialing of a peace agreement marked an important step toward ending the conflict and creates favorable opportunities not only for the South Caucasus but also for regions beyond.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Farhadov honored with deep respect the memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
