Culture-Diplomacy Take Centre Stage as Tajikistan Marks 35 Years of Independence
Tajikistan celebrates its national journey in Islamabad, bringing together Pakistan’s leadership, diplomats and international community
Islamabad – 8 October, 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : An official reception was held in Islamabad on Tuesday to mark the 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and was attended by representatives of Pakistani state authorities, members of diplomatic missions, international organizations, and representatives of political, academic, cultural, business and public circles, along with other distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan Yusuf Sharifzoda highlighted the significance of State Independence as a major historic achievement of the people of Tajikistan.
The ambassador noted that during the period of independence, under the leadership of President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, favorable conditions had been created for strengthening national statehood, ensuring peace and national unity, promoting sustainable development, and reviving national historical and cultural values. He also highlighted Tajikistan’s efforts to strengthen its position in the international arena and contribute to important international initiatives.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal also delivered congratulatory remarks on behalf of the Government of Pakistan on the occasion.
He emphasized the friendly and brotherly relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan, as well as the strategic partnership between the two countries, expressing confidence that bilateral relations in various fields would continue to expand.
The reception also featured a cultural programme by a group of artists from Tajikistan, who performed Tajik songs, music and traditional dances, showcasing the country’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
An ethnographic exhibition featuring examples of Tajik material culture and national traditions was also arranged for the guests.
A special tourism corner highlighted Tajikistan’s tourism potential, including its historical and cultural sites, natural landscapes, mountains and other tourism resources.
The event also featured statues and images of prominent figures from Tajik history and culture, highlighting their contributions to science, literature, culture and civilization in the region.
Guests were also presented with traditional Tajik cuisine, offering an insight into the country’s national dishes and traditions of hospitality. Special photo corners featuring national symbols and elements of Tajikistan were arranged, while a photography exhibition presented different aspects of the country, including its nature, historical and cultural heritage and social life.
Commemorative gifts featuring the symbols of the 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan were presented to guests. A ceremonial cake-cutting ceremony was also held.
The reception concluded with a festive dinner featuring traditional Tajik national cuisine, highlighting the hospitality and cultural traditions of the Tajik people.
The event was held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, with the participation of representatives from various countries highlighting the importance of cultural, humanitarian and people-to-people ties between Tajikistan and the international community.
