PU CEMB Hosts COMCEC & COMSTECH-Funded International Training Workshop
Lahore – 22 September, 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : Punjab University’s Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) organized the inaugural ceremony of a four-day international training programme on “Genome Editing and Crop Biotechnology to Address Climate Challenges,” funded by COMCEC and COMSTECH.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali welcomed delegates from Tajikistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, highlighting CEMB’s advanced research in technologies including CRISPR and urging participants to gain maximum knowledge and practical skills.

Maruf AbdurRahmon, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Tajikistan, thanked CEMB and Punjab University for the invitation and said that Tajikistan and Pakistan enjoy strong and friendly relations in education, culture, science and technology. He noted that programmes of this nature provide an important platform for strengthening institutional linkages between the two countries and creating new opportunities for mutual cooperation, says press note. He added that such programmes help further strengthen institutional ties and explore new avenues of collaboration.
Advisor COMSTECH Prof. Shahid Mehmood Baig described CEMB as a state-of-the-art scientific and technological institution and an excellent platform for learning, networking and scientific collaboration.
CEMB Director Prof. Dr. Moazur Rahman highlighted the centre’s expertise in genome editing, more than 20 agreements with agri-tech organizations and ongoing research projects. He thanked COMCEC for funding the workshop and acknowledged the support of COMSTECH and PAFDA.
The ceremony was attended by senior academics, scientists, foreign experts, researchers and students. Later, souvenirs were presented to foreign delegates and distinguished guests.
