PM Awards Rs10 Million to Nurse Who Risked-Life to Save-Newborn
Brave Nurse Razia Noreen, to Receive Tamgha-e-Khidmat for Saving Baby in PIMS Fire
Islamabad – 3 September, 2026 (Adnan Hameed): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met Nurse Razia Noreen, who courageously risked her own life to save a newborn during the recent tragic fire incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Paying tribute to her extraordinary courage and dedication, the Prime Minister announced that Razia Noreen would be awarded the Tamgha-e-Khidmat on March 23 in recognition of her outstanding services. He also presented her with a cheque worth Rs10 million.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the entire nation was proud of Razia Noreen for risking her life to save an innocent child.
He said her remarkable act of courage and humanity would be remembered in history in golden words, adding that she truly deserved the national recognition and financial reward.
During the meeting, Razia Noreen shared details of the tragic incident and explained how she entered the affected area without caring for her own safety after seeing the fire.
She rescued a newborn baby girl, Asifa, and brought her outside before handing her over to Dr Abdul Rehman to ensure her safety amid the chaos.
Razia Noreen said she also tried to rescue other children, but the rapidly spreading fire, darkness and thick smoke made further rescue efforts extremely difficult.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, she said her fellow nurses also worked with great dedication and commitment.
The Prime Minister termed the PIMS fire incident deeply tragic and assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible. He also directed the Ministry of National Health Services to improve facilities and address problems at PIMS Hospital.
Federal Minister for National Health Services Mustafa Kamal and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar were also present during the meeting.
