First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses to be held in the Netherlands
Islamabad – 8 August, 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : The First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses will be held from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The landmark international event will be dedicated to one of the world’s oldest and most treasured horse breeds.
The three-day championship will bring together breeders, owners, equestrian experts, judges and admirers of the Akhal-Teke horse from around the world. The event will provide a unique platform for international cooperation and further promotion of the exceptional breed.
The Akhal-Teke horse is regarded as a national heritage and source of pride for the Turkmen people. For centuries, the breed has symbolized beauty, elegance, endurance, intelligence and loyalty. Through consistent efforts by Turkmenistan to preserve and promote the ancient breed, the Akhal-Teke horse has gained worldwide recognition as one of the finest horse breeds in the world.
The inaugural World Championship marks an important milestone in the international promotion of the Akhal-Teke breed and reflects growing global appreciation for its unique qualities and historical significance.
A major highlight of the championship will be performances by the renowned “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group and artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan. A distinguished governmental and cultural delegation from Turkmenistan will also travel to the Netherlands to participate in the extensive programme of events.
The programme will extend beyond sporting competitions and include a wide range of activities at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre. These will include equestrian competitions, a traditional beauty contest featuring outstanding representatives of the Akhal-Teke breed, and an international scientific and practical conference focusing on the preservation, breeding and promotion of Akhal-Teke horses.
According to the press note, the championship will also feature a large-scale exhibition showcasing the culture, crafts and traditions of Turkmenistan. The event is expected to attract participants and visitors from numerous countries, strengthening international cooperation and contributing to the preservation and development of the priceless heritage of the Akhal-Teke horse.
