Islamabad – 31 July 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Pakistan hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, highlighting Morocco’s progress under his leadership and reaffirming the longstanding bonds of friendship between Morocco and Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik graced the event as a Chief Guest. Addressing to the commemorative gathering Ali Pervaiz said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Morocco and expressed hope that bilateral ties would be further strengthened in the days ahead. He congratulated Morocco on behalf of Government and people of Pakistan.
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Pakistan Mohamed Karmoune said that the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne was an occasion to celebrate Morocco’s positive transformations and achievements over the past 27 years and to reflect on the challenges ahead in building a modern and prosperous state.
Addressing a ceremony marking Throne Day, Ambassador Karmoune said that democratic institutions had been strengthened, the country’s GDP had more than tripled, while social protection policies had witnessed considerable efforts to improve access to healthcare and social services.
He said Morocco’s security and stability, along with the efficiency and effectiveness of state institutions, had supported significant economic development, with positive indicators across different sectors, boosting economic growth and reinforcing national sovereignty.
Ambassador Karmoune said Morocco’s economic growth rate stood at approximately 4.9 percent in 2025 and was expected to remain at roughly the same level or higher in 2026.
He said Morocco had strengthened its position as a hub for industry, tourism and financial investment, with the automotive, aviation, renewable energy and food processing sectors emerging as fundamental pillars of national production, attracting foreign investment and creating wealth and employment opportunities.
The Ambassador said Morocco had become the leading exporter of cars in Africa, with a production capacity of nearly one million cars annually. Moroccan exports from the automotive and aviation sectors had exceeded 40 percent of total exports, ahead of the fertilizer sector.
He further said that the establishment of an industrial and technological base in defense and cybersecurity would gradually contribute to strengthening defense sovereignty, creating development opportunities and consolidating Morocco’s position as a regional power in these industries.
Referring to the tourism sector, Ambassador Karmoune said Morocco achieved a historic milestone in 2025, with nearly 20 million tourist arrivals, including members of the Moroccan diaspora. Karmoune said these accomplishments were the result of clear strategic direction and resolute policies geared towards the future.
Highlighting Morocco-Pakistan relations, Ambassador Karmoune said the celebration of Throne Day by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Pakistan was also an opportunity to highlight the historical relations of cooperation between Morocco and Pakistan.
“As an Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, I avail myself this opportunity to pay tribute to the brotherly relations which unite our two countries,” he said. He said the relationship between Morocco and Pakistan was based on mutual respect, trust and historical ties spanning more than 72 years.
At the political level, Ambassador Karmoune said bilateral cooperation was growing stronger through regular political dialogue, reinforcement of the legal framework, numerous exchanges of high-level visits and exemplary coordination in international organizations.
He said the Kingdom of Morocco was determined to continue its cooperation with Pakistan, adding that both countries could achieve their common development vision by working together and embed their relations in excellence.
Earlier, The event began with the playing of the national anthems of Morocco and Pakistan. On the occasion, a commemorative cake adorned with the flags of Morocco and Pakistan was also cut by Ambassador Mohammed Karmoune, along with the Chief Guest and diplomats. At the end of the ceremony, a lavish networking dinner was served to the guests by the Embassy of Morocco in Islamabad.
