‎‎Chairman Senate Gillani calls for promoting Sufi values to strengthen tolerance-social harmony

‎Islamabad – 16 July 2026 (Adnan Hameed) : ‎Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s rich Sufi heritage in promoting tolerance, dialogue and social harmony, stating that the teachings of Sufi saints continue to offer valuable guidance in addressing contemporary challenges of polarization and intolerance.

‎Addressing the inauguration of the art exhibition “Sufism & Culture” by artists Roomi and Aiman at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Islamabad, the Chairman Senate congratulated PNCA for organizing the exhibition and appreciated the artists for highlighting a theme deeply rooted in Pakistan’s spiritual and cultural traditions. ‎He noted that Pakistan possesses one of the richest Sufi traditions in the Muslim world, which has profoundly influenced the country’s poetry, music, architecture, languages and folklore. He observed that the enduring message of Sufism promotes respect, compassion and coexistence, values that are increasingly needed in today’s world.

‎Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the teachings of Sufi saints remind humanity that respect is stronger than hatred, dialogue more enduring than confrontation, and coexistence more rewarding than exclusion. He stressed that these timeless principles can help build more peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies.
‎
‎The Chairman Senate also commended the artistic contributions of Roomi and Aiman, saying that their work reflects how Pakistan’s cultural heritage continues to inspire contemporary expression and connect younger generations with enduring spiritual values. He further appreciated PNCA and all those involved in making the exhibition possible.
‎The exhibition was attended by artists, cultural figures, diplomats, art enthusiasts and distinguished guests from various walks of life.

‎The exhibition was also attended by Senator Atta Ur Rehman, Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Senator Atta Ul Haq, Senator Dilawar Khan and famous artists and renowned personalities.
